MONTES FOLLY SYRAH 750ml

$129.00

It was hard to find, but this wine is extraordinary. We loved it, and later on we found out it is an award-winning wine. For those of us who come from down under, Shiraz/Syrah is an absolute must on the dinner table. For us, it is not just that a wine ‘isn’t bad’ or ‘it’s nice’ it has to be great. Montes Folly Syrah is certified by us as “Fantastic”.

In Australia and New Zealand, we refer to Syrah as Shiraz, but either way it goes down just as smooth. “Montes Folly is an adventurous wine of exceptional quality.”- Montes Vineyard, and we happen to agree with them 100%. The first time we tried it we said “WOW”. A Syrah wine, from the vineyards located in La Finca de Apalta in Colchagua valley, Chile. The grapes are hand cut and rigorously selected. Montes Folly is recognized as the best Syrah in Chile. James Suckling gives it 96 points, we say it is delicious!

VIÑA MAIPO SYRAH 750ml

$60.00

For those of us who come from down under Shiraz/Syrah is an absolute must on the dinner table. It took us a while to find a really good Syrah that we could get here in Ecuador, but this is one of the few! We love this award winning Viña Maipo Syrah from the Central Valley of Chile. In Australia and New Zealand, we refer to Syrah as Shiraz, but either way it goes does just as smooth. Most people notice the oak, chocolate and vanilla notes in this very drinkable Syrah. Along with the luscious black currant and spice it is the perfect accompaniment for lamb, beef, venison and poultry.

EL PADRE CABERNET FRANC 750ml

$50.00

OK, so I liked the picture on the bottle, that is why I wanted to try this wine. We have been ‘trying’ it ever since. The grapes are harvested manually and then hand selected for fermentation. This reminds me of New Zealand with its many boutique vineyards. “It is an intense red with a purple hue. Aroma: It has ripe berries aromas reminiscent of raspberry and cranberry, as well as notes of Moka and black tea. Taste: It has great intensity, with black fruit and bitter chocolate flavors” Don’t you just love the way wine is described, that was courtesy of Corking Wines in the UK.

EL ENEMIGO CABERNET FRANC 750ml

$45.00

It is no coincidence that we like wines from boutique vineyards. The fact that nothing is mass produced, the grapes are selected by hand, and with love and attention to detail, we are continuously delighted with spectacular wines.

“Two romantics, a winemaker (Alejandro Vigil), and a historian (Adrianna Catena) - go back in time to capture an era when European immigrants recently settled in Argentina, sought to make wines as fine, and finer than those of their homelands.” -El Enemigo Vineyard.

Another boutique vineyard producing award winning wines. The grapes are sourced from Gualtallary and Tupungato Vineyards, grown in limestone soils, at high altitude - ideal for making a wine of elegance.

LUIGI BOSCA GALA 1 MALBEC 750ml

$55.00

Luigi Bosca Gala 1 is an innovative Argentinian “big beefy red”. We love that description the Brits gave it, that is what struck us the first time we tried it with a great US Ribeye steak. Its aroma is very subtle and balanced, with hints of berries y fresh spices, which gives it an intense flavor. Mendoza is world famous for producing spectacular wines and this one is no exception. It is a Malbec-blend with Petit Verdot and Tannat.

BOTTEGA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO ITALY 750ml

$53.00

This wine is a Sangiovese that most wine critics say is the best in all of Italy. Brunello di Montalcino is made with a Tuscan type of Sangiovese grape referred to as Brunello or Sangiovese Grosso. It’s bold, fruity, and with high tannins, we just loved it. “Feminine” is how one of our dear friends described this wine, once we tried it, we knew what he meant. Perfumed, fruity and delicate, this wine is a must.

OK, so here is another wine that I liked the picture on the bottle, that is why I wanted to try this wine. We have been ‘trying’ it ever since. The grapes are harvested manually and then hand selected for fermentation. Yet again reminding me of New Zealand with its many boutique vineyards. With notes of plum, and spices, this is a down to earth wine with a medium to full body that we love.

OUTER LIMITS SAUVIGNON BLANC 750ML

$46.00

We love this crisp refreshing Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. It is perfect on a hot day or for your “Happy Hour” as we do down under. The Valparaiso region of Chile is renowned for producing great wine. As you detect the first aromas upon opening the bottle, your mouth will water. Juicy citrus and tropical fruit abound with subtle notes of passion fruit. This white wine pairs really well with white meats, fish and lean red meats.

INTENSO FABIANO CABERNET SAUVIGNON VENETO ARGILLAIA 750ML

$19.00

This is an everyday, table wine, straight from Veneto, Italy. Granted, we can’t expect to drink or afford some amazing wine every day, those, we save for special occasions. We like this wine, goes great with meat, poultry or a hot soup on a rainy day. Mellow and pleasant.

Per the Wine Enthusiast, this is “a bright and sharp rendition of Cabernet Sauvignon (and 10% Merlot) with background notes of wild berries, forest floor and vanilla bean. The wine is tonic and lean with a determined blast of freshness on the close.”

VIGNETI DEL SALENTO PRIMITIVO I MURI PUGLIA-ITALY 750ML

$10.00

“Significant tannins and rich blackberry velvet. Good.” Primitivo is a fine grape from Italy. Pairs well with beef and pasta.

Expert wine reviewers such as Vivino proclaimed it to be “Good value for money. Similar wines usually cost 41% more…”.

So, in a nutshell this falls under our own invented category of “wines we like”. With this we signify these are very good table wines, and affordable to have with your everyday meals. Notice we also carry the other category named “wines we love”, just to differentiate, those are very special, and yes, pricey, thus reserved for special occasions.
